Outdoor Euphoria How-to

Several years ago we painted our front door a coral toned red. Ever since then I’ve wanted to add red accents to the front porch and the carport. In January I began stockpiling my raw materials to do that. In addition I wanted to use a blue and green color scheme on the screened porch. These photos show the result.
Some items you might have noticed are the rugs I used on the backs and seats of the benches. I spray-painted some older wicker chairs a gorgeous red. I repurposed a bedroom bench by covering the seat with a coordinating print shower curtain thereby making the seat weather and pet proof. I found a beautifully embroidered seat cushion on clearance and a charming red ceramic “bird” birdhouse. The “avian apartment house” was a long ago craft fair find. For the carport door I chose to hang a ready-made framed piece consisting of a silhouette of a rusty red rooster. The cabinet was an on line find and hanging above it, is a floral canvas piece that I picked up at a discount store. The large rooster is painted metal but his companion, Miss Hen, is a ceramic piece.
I spray-painted the mailbox by the door and hung a decorative piece of painted metal above it.
On the brick wall, we have had hanging for years a white painted pseudo-window to which I added a ready-made floral wreath.
As you probably noticed I am enamored of white rabbits, chickens, birds and cats.
Among the collection of items I used on the screened porch, most all came from different places but meshed together well. I attached the three green topiary balls to the three aqua blue flowerpots by running string from the balls through the hole in the bottom of the flowerpots and tying it off with a craft stick. The sun shade is actually a shower curtain that I hemmed on the long edge and through which I ran a curtain rod. I bought matching green ribbon and sewed lengths of it to the seat and back cushions on the swing to hold them in place. The small table cover is actually another shower curtain. Personally, I’m in love with the blue and green lantern. Also you may have noticed the wicker birdcage. It was once white then became bleached now it’s a beautiful lime green! Needless to say I’ve had loads of fun with this project. Thanks for viewing it!

If you’re like me, you are forever tweaking your creations. Case in point, today I added to my humble carport tableau. I “roped” a metal rooster clock (must always know the time when you’re busy outside) and added a wooden letter “G” to its tail! Yee haw!

Coast2Coast and Glass Slipper Challenge

The time: February 2014.  The place: Orlando, FL.  The challenge: Glass Slipper – run a 10K and half-marathon back-to-back.  DONE!

To add some excitement to obtaining my Disney Coast2Coast medal, thought I’d throw in a 10K as well.  You know, didn’t want things to be too easy.  First up on that fateful Saturday morning, the inagural Enchanted 10K.  Wore my Believe shirt from Raw Threads, my purple Sparkle skirt and finished in a decent time for my record.

Next and the final race on my current Disney list was my 2nd Princess Half-Marathon.  Clad in my Minnie Mouse inspired outfit (Raw Thread’s red bow shirt, polka-dotted Sparkle skirt, and my runDisney Minnie Mouse shoes.

And I FINISHED!  Collected my 4 medals at the end of Sunday’s race: Enchanted 10K, Princess Half-Marathon, Glass Slipper Challenge AND my Coast2Coast (pink edition).  Ah, now what next?

P.S. Can you tell that my favorite parts of these races are the outfits?  🙂  Oh, and can’t forget my Sweaty Bands!  Love those things!

…a touch of Flossie

It’s a small thing but I just had to add my own touch.  Standing magnetic memo board was crying out for red rose magnets.  I cut the backs off some cute buttons and glued the buttons to some strong circular magnets.  I also had a circular paper memo pad with an attached magnet on the back.  Perfect!!

Now that I’ve retired, I hope to spend more time on fun stuff. Here is an example of a “garden” decoration I made for my sister-in-law. It can be used inside or outside.

I made this in about 20 minutes from a garden kneeling pad, a metal flower stake, children’s gardening gloves and raffia ribbon. It can be hung or staked in a favorite planter. I printed a themed and personalized enclosure card to go with it.

RunDisney Tinkerbell

My first trip to Disneyland was a SUCCESS! Started off 2014 with the Tinkerbell Half-Marathon in Anaheim, CA.  And you know I had to go to the parks while I was there.

Reflections of 2013

This year, 2013, has been an adventure about which I can’t complain. I’ve run 4ish half-marathons if you count fumbling on the Disney Wine & Dine and only completing 10 miles. My family has had ups and downs but we are as close as ever. Work has had its ups and downs, but I am in the end happy with the outcome and will ride this career plateau for now. I’m happily in love and can’t believe how lucky I am in finding this gentleman (online, in fact). August of this year was one year and I am enjoying this adventure with him.

Next step is looking to 2014 and what the year will bring. I’d like to plan a few goals and adventures, but I know many things in the coming year will be spontaneous and I welcome those as well.

I’m such a lucky gal!

Reflections of Summer

Summer 2013

Summer is slipping through my fingers too quickly. I felt like my brief getaway to Callaway Gardens was too short to take full advantage of the warm weather.

That said, I was glad to have a break with the beauty of the gardens.

Today is my birthday and I’m such a lucky girl to have spent it with my loved ones. We had birthday brunch at the 57th Fighter Group and a fun trip to the Buford Highway Farmers Market.

I’m so lucky.

Atlanta Braves Girl’s Night Out

So, Miss Fancy and Mrs. Flossie went to the Atlanta Braves Girl’s Night Out! We had fun cheering on our home team. Justin Upton hit a grand slam and Kimbrel closed out the game like a champ to beat out the Dodgers!
